NETWORK UPGRADE PROJECT

When Comcast acquired its Northern California markets from AT & T Broadband in 2002, most of the existing cable network lacked the bandwidth and advanced technology required to deliver cutting-edge services to local homes and businesses.  Although AT&T Broadband had already started rebuilding the network, they forecast that the project would not be finished for at least seven years.

In a startling move, Comcast accelerated the network upgrade to be finished in two years. By the end of 2004, Comcast had kept its promise. At a capital cost of $1.1 billion, the company upgraded more than 25,000 miles of cable, and introduced the digital age to millions of homes throughout Northern California. The newly-rebuilt Advanced Digital Network is the pipeline that makes it possible for Comcast to offer our full range of products and services including lightning-fast High-Speed Internet, video-on-demand, and Comcast Digital Voice.

In 2010, Comcast launched XFINITY. XFINITY represents the future of our company and it’s a promise to customers that we’ll keep innovating. We have rebranded our products: XFINITY TV, XFINITY Voice, XFINITY Internet, XFINITY Home, etc. XFINITY is about offering our customers more — more HD, more speed, more choice and more control over their services.
