Comcast to Double Internet Speeds for Stockton, Modesto, Tracy, Chico, Oroville, Grass Valley, Marysville and Yuba City Customers
Residential High-Speed Internet Service Gets Even Faster with BLAST!

Sacramento, CA - (May 12, 2008) -- Comcast, the nation’s leading provider of entertainment, information and communications, today announced that it will double the speeds of its Performance Plus high-speed Internet service in Stockton, Modesto, Tracy, Chico, Oroville, Grass Valley, Marysville and Yuba City areas to 16 Mbps for residential customers, delivering an ultra-fast broadband experience at no additional cost. Comcast’s faster tier of high-speed Internet service has already been launched for business customers throughout California. The 16 Mbps speed tier has also been launched for residential customers in the San Francisco Bay Area and Fresno, Visalia, Tulare and Los Baños areas, and will be provided for residential customers in the company’s remaining Central California service area, including Sacramento, Davis, Roseville and Placerville, in a phased approach.

The automatic upgrade to the new 16 Mbps speed tier, called BLAST!, will begin on June 3 in Stockton, Modesto and Tracy and on June 17 in Chico, Oroville, Grass Valley, Marysville and Yuba City, and requires no action by customers who currently subscribe to Comcast’s Performance Plus 8 Mbps service.

New customers, or current 6 Mbps Comcast customers who would like to upgrade to the 16 Mbps speed tier, can do so by signing up for BLAST! starting today in Stockton, Modesto, Tracy, and starting May 26 in Chico, Oroville, Grass Valley, Marysville and Yuba City.

With Blast!, customers, for example, would be able to download a 700 MB movie in less than 6 minutes.  By comparison, downloading one 700 MB movie would take one hour with 1.5 Mbps DSL service.* Downloading files gets even faster with Comcast’s patent-pending PowerBoost™ speed enhancer, which provides extra bursts of speed when customers need it most to download files such as videos, games and music or to upload files like digital photos all at no additional charge.

“Comcast is continually upgrading our leading residential broadband service to give our customers even faster access to everything that they want online,” said Farrell Moseley, Area Vice President for Comcast in the Central Valley (DeeDee Brady, General Manager for Comcast in the North Valley).  “We continue to innovate to bring our customers the best high-speed Internet experience available.”

Comcast’s blazing-fast high-speed Internet service offers consumers the ideal way to enjoy all of the video-rich content on the Web.  Additionally, Comcast customers get hundreds of dollars worth of value-added features through Comcast.net, a top-ten site, such as the highly-acclaimed McAfee Internet Security Software, Games Channel with access to Game Invasion, The Fan, Rhapsody Radio, Comcast PhotoCenter and safe, fun activities just for kids.

The upgrade from 8 Mbps to 16 Mbps for customers in these areas is one of a number of speed enhancements Comcast has made to its service over the years.  Comcast will continue to increase speeds as it evolves from broadband to wideband with the introduction of DOCSIS 3.0, which will set a new standard for high-speed Internet service across its cable networks.  With DOCSIS 3.0, Comcast will deliver significantly faster speeds of up to 100 Mbps to customers over the next two years with the capability of delivering higher speeds of 160 Mbps or more in the future.
