12 New HD Channels, Including Wildly Popular Fox Soccer HD, and Three SD Networks Come to South Valley After Comcast Successfully Converts
to All-Digital Delivery System
FRESNO, CA (April 24, 2012)—Comcast’s California Region today announced that it has completed its digital migration to a full digital delivery system in Fresno, Los Baños, Merced, Visalia and the surrounding areas, and launched 15 new television networks to residential homes and businesses as part of its growing Xfinity TV lineup. The new networks include a high-definition (HD) feed of the wildly popular Fox Soccer channel (see complete list of networks and channel numbers below). More than 30 communities in the South Valley (see complete list of cities below) will now have access to the new programming. Earlier this year, Comcast began a digital initiative which converted Limited Basic channels from analog to digital, and reclaimed analog bandwidth to allow the company to provide more products and services to customers, such as faster Internet speeds, more channels and more Xfinity On Demand content.
The new programming will be available to residential homes and businesses in the following cities: Atwater, Clovis, Crows Landing, Del Rey, Dinuba, Dos Palos, Exeter, Farmersville, Firebaugh, Fowler, Friant, Fresno, Grayson, Hanford, Kerman, Kingsburg, Lemoore, Los Baños, Madera, Mendota, Merced, Parlier, Pinedale, Porterville, Reedley, Riverdale, San Joaquin, Sanger, Selma, Tulare, Visalia and Winton.
The new HD networks will include: BBC America HD, Bloomberg HD, Fox Soccer HD, Galavision HD, GSN HD, GMC HD, H2 (formerly History International) HD, The Hub HD, Investigation Discovery HD, Nat Geo Wild HD, Oxygen HD, and Sprout HD (see list below for programming descriptions).
In addition to these new HD Channels, Comcast continues to deliver more HD content via Xfinity On Demand, so customers can watch HD when they want to watch it. With more than 6,000 HD choices, Comcast is delivering the HD programming that aligns with what consumers want to watch and how they want to watch it.
Customers who do not receive HD channels will have new programming options as well. Three new standard definition (SD) networks are launching – BBC World News, the BBC's international news and current affairs channel, will launch on Channel 167; Daystar, a faith-based Christian television network, will launch on Channel 234; and ReelzChannel, a network devoted to delivering entertaining and informative programming that is all about movies, will launch on Channel 150.
